Standing Firm Against the Pandemic — A Chronicle of Beijing 2020 MedTech’s Emergency Support in Frontline Medical Supply Production
At the dawn of 2020, when people across China had just counted down to a new year full of expectations, no one could have imagined such a bitter beginning. The sudden outbreak of COVID-19 cast a heavy shadow across the nation, and the whole country was drawn into a decisive battle against the novel coronavirus.
The Call to Action
On the afternoon of February 16, at around 4 p.m., Mr. Daiwen Wang, President of Beijing 2020 Medical Technology Co., Ltd., was giving routine instructions in the company’s WeChat group regarding epidemic-period work arrangements. Suddenly, he was interrupted by an urgent phone call: at the request of the Beijing Municipal Government and the Yizhuang Economic and Technological Development Zone authorities, one of the company’s production lines was to be requisitioned for emergency use—specifically, to produce medical masks for frontline healthcare workers.
Beijing 2020’s production workshop was already a Class-III medical device compliant cleanroom. If it passed inspection, it would be officially taken over for urgent deployment. Once activated, the line could produce 20,000 N95 masks per day, dedicated to medical staff protection.

After answering the call, Mr. Wang immediately set aside his work and rushed to the factory. By 5 p.m., a government inspection team—including Director Tang of the Yizhuang Food and Drug Administration, Deputy Director Wang of the Yizhuang Science and Technology Bureau, and Ms. Zhai, Executive Director of Beijing Lifecare-Med—arrived for a full inspection, accompanied by Mr. Wang and Mr. Zhu, President of Huilongsen Science Park.
After a thorough professional assessment, it was concluded that the company’s workshop not only met but exceeded the requirements for sterile mask production. The decision was made on the spot: the facility would be requisitioned. Thus began a race against time.
19 Hours of Round-the-Clock Battle
From the moment Mr. Wang received the call at 4 p.m. on February 16, to the successful test production of the very first medical mask at 11:30 a.m. on February 17, only 19 hours had passed. In that short time, the team completed site inspections, equipment delivery and installation, production environment audits, and test runs—an entire chain of complex procedures.

To ensure the equipment’s timely arrival, Director Jin Guangze of the Yizhuang Science and Technology Bureau personally traveled to Dongguan, Guangdong, to coordinate logistics. Even then, difficulties mounted: the large machines could not fit through the workshop doors, and the team had no choice but to temporarily dismantle part of the wall for entry. While ensuring the wall’s eventual restoration and maintaining the cleanroom standards, workers toiled through the night.
Government officials, including Director Tang of Yizhuang FDA, Mr. Pei of the Beijing FDA, and Mr. Li of Yizhuang FDA, stayed on site to oversee installation, guide production technology, and conduct audits. Deputy Director Wang remained in the workshop overnight to direct and supervise. Meanwhile, Beijing Lifecare-Med’s Ms. Zhai and Beijing 2020 Medtech’s Production Manager Linzhong Wang coordinated with the team, while President Zhu of Huilongsen Science Park deployed construction personnel to support equipment installation. By the early morning of the 17th, installation, preliminary calibration, and workshop restoration were complete.

Later that morning, Mr. Wang mobilized key leaders in the company. After intensive worker training and final adjustments, the first batch of test-run masks rolled off the line at 11:30 a.m. The room erupted in pride and relief—an emotional moment that lifted everyone’s spirits.

With Love in the Heart, Always Prepared
President Daiwen Wang, founder of Beijing 2020, is an alumnus of Wuhan University School of Medicine. As Wuhan became the epicenter of the outbreak, many of his classmates and fellow alumni fought on the front lines, some falling ill themselves. The escalating crisis weighed heavily on his mind. Though he had already donated personally, he often felt it wasn’t enough: “I wanted to do more for them, but I didn’t know how to channel my strength,” he said.
So when he learned that the government sought to requisition the company’s facilities, he did not hesitate for a moment. He immediately mobilized all available resources to ensure the mission’s success. He also knew clearly what this meant for the company: as a single-line manufacturer, losing its production capacity for three months would halt all operations, including research and development. Inventory was limited, and the release of new products long anticipated by spinal surgery experts would inevitably be delayed.
Yet, in his words: “In the face of a national crisis, any difficulty for the company is a small matter.” Under his leadership, the team committed themselves fully to the government’s call, sparing no effort to contribute to the fight, no matter the cost. For Beijing 2020, to serve frontline medical workers and contribute even a modest strength to the country was a source of profound pride.
A Message of Gratitude
Mr. Sheng, Deputy Director of the Yizhuang Economic Development Zone, personally sent President Wang a message of thanks: “The people of Beijing will remember you. The Development Zone will not forget your contribution at this critical moment in epidemic prevention.”
This heartfelt recognition was the greatest encouragement Beijing 2020 MedTech could receive. The company expresses deep gratitude to the Beijing government and Development Zone leaders for their trust, and to all staff and partners who labored tirelessly for this mission.
Together, united in purpose, we will overcome. In this life-and-death struggle against the coronavirus, Beijing 2020 MedTech stands with unwavering faith in victory—awaiting the dawn alongside the nation.
